What we do, achieve, and learn
The water in dams, supplying Istanbul are at its lowest level in the past 15 years
January 5, 2021
The water in dams, supplying Istanbul are at its lowest level in the past 15 years and drought concerns are rising.
Why is this happening now?
- Almost 22.3% of the water supplied to Istanbul from various sources does not even reach the grid due to leaks.
- Rainfall is nowhere near the levels of previous years, let alone snowfall. All that because of climate change.
- The higher demand for water associated with a rising population in the financial and commercial hub of Turkey.
Though alarming, the threat of drought is not exclusive to Istanbul as other cities report decreasing water levels in dams, from Edirne in the northwest to Izmir in the west.
The risk is here. We have to be careful and save water.
We have the solution that empowers water utilities to adapt to water stress and prevent water shortages.
