A 2017 report from the World Health Organization found Eastern European and Balkan countries to have the most annual air pollution-related deaths in Europe.
Bulgaria has struggled with some of the worst air in Europe in the past decade. Winter is particularly bad for air quality in Eastern Europe, because wood and coal stoves are used more, and coal-fired power plants are running at full strength to provide heating.
Many changes have to be made in order to better the air quality in urban areas.
However, we have to have the data on air pollution.
We empower cities and authorities to map the pollution levels city-wide, figure out which the pollutants are and improve air quality with data-driven decisions.
